Obviously, football video games were on every gamer's wish list when the first console games were out there. To try to generate excitement, the creators of this one insisted it featured "all the excitement" of actual football. With an open path to the end zone, this is what the number one console in the day scored a touchdown with.
The football players look like blocky little robots. Let's get that out of the way. As crude-looking as that picture is, it's even worse when you see the game in action. Technology was so inadequate back then, that every moving player flickered to the point where you could barely see the action. The "crowd" cheering sounded closer to a car running over gravel. No scrolling screen, either. Within a couple years, things would pick up slightly, with a competing console developing a football video game. It was yards better than that first one - people looked a bit more like people, the players no longer flickered, and gamers got their scrolling screen. Better, but not great.
The video game world was certainly jazzed when that was released, but it wasn't exactly the gold standard. That wouldn't come until several years down the line. This next one reaped the benefits of the 8-bit gaming revolution, and people still rave about it to this day. This one held the top spot for football video game fans forever.
Not hard to understand why that caught on - they were the first to really bring a more comprehensive simulation of football to the video game console. Football video games went to the next level with that one, due to the much needed upgrades. It's even got a presence in the gaming world today, thanks to its online comeback. Yet, it's still a poor man's PS3 Madden 10. Take a look at it, after taking in all of those older games. Yes, technology has been good to the video game world in general, and the football video game has benefitted from it all. That being said, time to lay off making fun of the older football video games. No need to beat a dead horse. Those games did what needed to be done, and we have them to thank, indirectly, for PS3 Madden 10. PS3 Madden 10 is in a whole different stratosphere than its predecessors, and for that, hardcore gamers have every reason to be stoked. But it's not just the hardcore gamers that are loving this one - the critics have weighed in, and they give it the thumbs up. Anytime you read a PS3 Madden 10 review, you'll see things like "realistic and enjoyable." Once again, EA Sports makes a win with PS3 Madden 10 - was there any doubt? No doubt, PS3 Madden 10 is the real sport of champions, and don't let some douchebag tell you otherwise. Sure, we love all PlayStation sports video games, but PS3 Madden 10 stands at the top, as one of the best. For many, this is the PlayStation football game by which all others are measured. And it's where they separate the men from the boys, by letting you duke it out for some serious cash. PlayStation Madden 10 maniacs have the opportunity to challenge each other for some serious cash. You'll be making touchdowns, and nabbing your foe's money, after you've educated yourself in all things Madden 10.
